The population brings the popular education! Join community activists Leroy Moore, Tiny Garcia, and other Skolaz as they share how the worlds of academia, research and media have a rigid notion of who should be heard, what is a scholar and what is considered a valid form of data collection, media production and research. In this session the poverty, race, disability, youth, elder, bordered migrant and indigenous scholars of POOR Magazine coming from all four corners of mother earth and many forms of struggle challenge the concept of the canon, of scholarship itself and who should be heard and recognized. Using their new book published in February 2019, Poverty Skolarship: Poor People-Led Theory, Art, Words & Tears Across Mama Earth, Leroy Moore and Tiny Garcia will discuss how we have collectively created a poor people’s history, a herstory and a pedagogy of the ways to lift up, enact and fight for the everyday needs of survival while actually building and manifesting a poor people-led solution to poverty, houselessnes and scarcity models.
